Skelton abandons the Heartland for Bill Clinton and New York City

HARRISONVILLE — 4th Congressional District candidate Vicky Hartzler has been hoping Congressman Ike Skelton will join her in a public forum at which citizens and the media would be given an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. He has refused, offering several excuses, including a busy schedule. Sadly, that “busy schedule” is taking him out of Missouri this weekend to one of the most opulent settings in the country – the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City – where he’ll be the guest of honor at a fundraising event featuring former President Bill Clinton.

“It’s sad that Ike Skelton doesn’t have enough time to get together with the good people of the 4th District but has time to travel to one of the ritziest locations in New York City to participate in a campaign fundraiser with a former president and his New York friends,” said Hartzler. “We’ve been saying that after 34 years in Washington Mr. Skelton has changed. Abandoning west-central Missouri in favor of the glamor and lights of the Waldorf-Astoria in New York is proof positive of what we have been saying: ‘It’s time. We deserve better!’”

Out of work 4th District Missourians who are having a tough time getting by should be aware that while they cope with the hardships brought on by the Skelton-Pelosi-Obama economic disaster their congressman will be enjoying the good life in the lap of luxury in the Waldorf-Astoria’s Peacock Alley restaurant. The lunchtime menu at Peacock Alley lists a Waldorf Salad at $16, tomato soup at $15, ham & cheese panini for $21, grilled yellow tuna at $31, and for dessert ice cream is a bargain at $10!

While Congressman Skelton rubs shoulders with the rich and famous of society Saturday in the Big Apple, Vicky Hartzler will be walking in the University of Central Missouri’s Homecoming Parade in Warrensburg, working hard, meeting the good people of the 4th District. The contrast could not be clearer.

Vicky and Lowell Hartzler live near Harrisonville in Cass County, where they operate a diversified crop and livestock family farming operation. They own Hartzler Equipment Company, a family business with three stores in the 4th District. A former classroom teacher, Hartzler served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1995-2001, winning with an average 66 percent of the vote in her three election victories. In 2004, she was spokesperson for Missouri’s successful constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage.

One Response to “Skelton abandons the Heartland for Bill Clinton and New York City”

  1. Sir,
The VFW of Missouri DID NOT endorse Ike Skelton or any other candidate in Missouri. The National VFW PAC made all the endersements without any input from the Dept of Missouri VFW. It has upset the leadership and membership of the VFW so bad that the National Commander-in-Chief fired all the members of the VFW PAC Committee and will be moving to dissolve the VFW PAC at the next convention.
    Sincerely
    Iris Joe Kelley

Subject: Re: Endorsement of Ike Skelton

Dear Leadership of the Missouri VFW:

The endorsement of Ike Skelton by the VFW of Missouri dishonors the organization.

Ike Skelton has produced false television advertisements about VICKY Hartzler.

Ike Skelton never served in the military, and as a Vietnam Era Veteran, I say his dishonesty should not be tolerated by America’s veterans.

Strong evidence shows Ike Skelton has not created jobs at FLW or Whitemen AFB. His defense contractor donors have no production facilities in Missouri 4th congressional district [see attachment].

The American Legion is apolitical and does not endorse candidates. The VFW of Missouri is wrong in endorsing any candidate, especially a dishonest candidate like Ike Skelton.

Consider the seniors [loss of Medicare and Social Security] and the children [loss of Medicaid] of Missouri’s 4th district that Ike Skelton has forgotten when he became a Pelosi clone in the past 20 months.

The VFW of Missouri should withdraw its endorsement of Ike Skelton on several grounds and they should make that decision widely known to voters.
