Former Governor, US Senator, and US Attorney General John Ashcroft’s endorsement of Vicky Hartzler
To the Residents of the 4th District:
It is with a great deal of pride that I endorse the candidacy of Vicky Hartzler to be your next Member of the United States Congress.
During her six years in the Missouri General Assembly Vicky served honorably, championing legislation designed to lower taxes, fight crime, and facilitate access to adoption. She has been a strong and steadfast supporter of our men and women in uniform and there can be no doubt our veterans and those serving in the military today will have no greater friend in Congress.
Vicky has demonstrated the ability to bring Missourians of various political stripes together. Not only did she help build bridges between Republicans and Democrats on key legislative issues but she made evident that ability again during the 2004 campaign to recognize traditional marriage between a man and a woman as the law of our state – a proposal embraced by 71 percent of Missourians.
You could have no finer representative on Capitol Hill. I urge you to vote for Vicky Hartzler on November 2.
John Ashcroft

Hartzler campaign launches new TV, radio ads
HARRISONVILLE — Into the final week of campaign 2010 and the Vicky Hartzler for Congress campaign has released two new TV ads and a radio commercial designed to draw contrasts between the 4th Congressional District Republican candidate and her Democrat opponent – 17-term incumbent Ike Skelton.
The first television ad features former Ike Skelton supporters telling viewers that they once supported Mr. Skelton but are no longer behind him because too many years in Washington, D.C. have changed the person they once voted for.
“The Ike Skelton so many 4th District residents voted for over the years is gone,” said Hartzler. “The Ike Skelton representing our district today is not the independent voice he claims to be. He is a rubber stamp for reckless spending bills, cap-and-tax, card check which would remove the right of workers to vote on forming unions, and other travesties championed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, with whom Mr. Skelton votes 95 percent of the time. We deserve better.”
The second TV ad provides viewers with three military veterans, including a former commandant at Fort Leonard Wood, explaining why they are supporting Vicky Hartzler. They respond to Skelton campaign lies and distortions about Hartzler’s votes more than a decade ago in the Missouri Legislature and make clear their view that Hartzler is very pro-military and will, when she gets to Washington, be a friend to our men and women who have served and who are serving.
The radio commercial responds to the many lies and distortions manufactured by Mr. Skelton in a desperate effort to hold onto his seat at all costs. It reminds voters that it is Vicky Hartzler who received the endorsement of the Missouri Farm Bureau. It also reminds voters it is Mr. Skelton who has voted for Nancy Pelosi’s job-killing agenda.
Vicky and Lowell Hartzler live near Harrisonville in Cass County, where they operate a diversified crop and livestock family farming operation. They own Hartzler Equipment Company, a family business with three stores in the 4th District. A former classroom teacher, Hartzler served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1995-2001, winning with an average 66 percent of the vote in her three election victories. In 2004, she was spokesperson for Missouri’s successful constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage.
Three leaders named to Hartzler’s Farmers and Ranchers for Vicky Coalition
HARRISONVILLE — The Vicky Hartzler for Congress campaign has named three 4th District residents to serve as leaders of the Hartzler campaign’s Farmers and Ranchers Coalition.
As leaders of the coalition they advise Vicky on federal, state, and local agriculture issues and work with other community agricultural leaders, during the campaign, to share Vicky’s strong support of agriculture with the public.
Brent Heid of Harrisonville owns and operates a multi-generational farm in Cass County. Lone Tree Farms consists of 2000 acres of crop ground, producing corn, soybeans, wheat, grass seed and hay. The farm also has a sow unit producing weaned pigs and a few cows.
Charles Bassett of Pulaski County has run a calf-cow farming operation for nearly 50 years and has been a member of the Missouri Farm Bureau for more than 25 years. He served six years as a member of the Missouri Beef Industry Council Board, two years as its chairman. He was a representative to the U.S. Meat Export Federation for two years. He currently serves on the U.S. Beef Board.
Dwayne Schad of Versailles is a board member of the District 4 Farm Bureau. He and his wife, Amy, operate a 500-acre farm raising corn, wheat beans, Milo, wheat and hay and have a 100-head cow-calf operation. He retails small hay bales mostly to horse farmers. He is currently the vice president and commodity chairman for the Morgan County Farm Bureau.

Hartzler campaign names Stokes-Begley leader of Gun Owners for Vicky Coalition
HARRISONVILLE — The Vicky Hartzler for Congress campaign has named Sheila Stokes-Begley leader of Gun Owners for Vicky, the Hartzler campaign’s coalition which advises Vicky on Second Amendment issues and matters related to gun owners’ rights.
Stokes-Begley, a member of the National Rifle Association, is the president of Western Missouri Shooters Alliance, which has been a steadfast supporter of Hartzler and has endorsed her candidacy.
“Vicky Hartzler has been, is and will be with us in fighting to preserve our Second Amendment rights in every way possible,” stated Stokes-Begley in expressing the organization’s support for Hartzler. “She had a 100 percent voting record with the NRA when she served in the Missouri House. She is a constitutional conservative who will be our best and strongest voice in Washington, D.C. for gun rights and freedoms.”
The coalition has been successful is publicizing Vicky Hartzler’s passion and support for the Second Amendment and was instrumental in last week’s 4th District tour by Gun Owners of America to promote gun owners’ rights and to talk up its endorsement of Hartzler as the candidate who will best represent gun owners and our Second Amendment rights in the halls of Congress.

Skelton abandons the Heartland for Bill Clinton and New York City
HARRISONVILLE — 4th Congressional District candidate Vicky Hartzler has been hoping Congressman Ike Skelton will join her in a public forum at which citizens and the media would be given an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates. He has refused, offering several excuses, including a busy schedule. Sadly, that “busy schedule” is taking him out of Missouri this weekend to one of the most opulent settings in the country – the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City – where he’ll be the guest of honor at a fundraising event featuring former President Bill Clinton.
“It’s sad that Ike Skelton doesn’t have enough time to get together with the good people of the 4th District but has time to travel to one of the ritziest locations in New York City to participate in a campaign fundraiser with a former president and his New York friends,” said Hartzler. “We’ve been saying that after 34 years in Washington Mr. Skelton has changed. Abandoning west-central Missouri in favor of the glamor and lights of the Waldorf-Astoria in New York is proof positive of what we have been saying: ‘It’s time. We deserve better!’”
Out of work 4th District Missourians who are having a tough time getting by should be aware that while they cope with the hardships brought on by the Skelton-Pelosi-Obama economic disaster their congressman will be enjoying the good life in the lap of luxury in the Waldorf-Astoria’s Peacock Alley restaurant. The lunchtime menu at Peacock Alley lists a Waldorf Salad at $16, tomato soup at $15, ham & cheese panini for $21, grilled yellow tuna at $31, and for dessert ice cream is a bargain at $10!
While Congressman Skelton rubs shoulders with the rich and famous of society Saturday in the Big Apple, Vicky Hartzler will be walking in the University of Central Missouri’s Homecoming Parade in Warrensburg, working hard, meeting the good people of the 4th District. The contrast could not be clearer.

Veterans tour district in support of Vicky Hartzler
HARRISONVILLE — Dozens of military veterans hit the road early today, visiting counties throughout the 4th Congressional District in support of Republican candidate Vicky Hartzler. Hartzler has been responding to lies from Congressman Ike Skelton regarding votes she cast in the Missouri Legislature in the 1990s. And these veterans, members of a Hartzler coalition known as “Veterans for Vicky” decided to set the record straight.
“We are tired of the lies the Skelton campaign is telling,” said Lt. Col. Cathy Bennett, USAF Retired, of Green Ridge. “Vicky Hartzler’s father served as an Army Reservist for several years. She is pro-military and it angers me to see and hear ads saying anything but. Spreading the message today is the least I can do to help set the record straight. I am proud to do it.”
Simultaneous Veterans for Vicky tours began this morning in Wheatland, Waynesville, and Harrisonville. They are continuing through this evening, wrapping up in Lebanon, Jefferson City, and Warrensburg.
